Savannah Culinary Tour FAQs

Do I have to purchase tickets for the Savannah Culinary Tour in advance?

Yes, you must purchase advance reservations, and space is limited. Waiting until the day of the tour to make reservations is not recommended. Tours quickly sell out ahead of time, so please plan accordingly. Walk-ups cannot join the tour: the food orders will have already been placed, and once the orders have been called in, there is no altering the order.

Do we just walk around and sample food?

Savannah Culinary Tour combines both a tour of Savannah’s historic district and a ‘foodie’ tour. Tours are fully narrated by your guide and sometimes include opportunities to interact with the chefs, mixologists, proprietors and other restaurant staff at each of our stops.

How much food is served on the tour?

There is enough food on our culinary tours to make a very filling meal for most. We recommend a light breakfast and no lunch prior to our tours. Come hungry, leave satisfied!

What types of food are served on the tour?

Food includes a variety of local specialties, including fresh local seafood. Each tour will include several different courses including appetizers/small plates, entrees and desserts. Restaurants and venues included on tours have been chosen for their commitment to excellence, and for their excellent representation of Lowcountry cuisine.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

Working with our chefs, certain dietary restrictions can be accommodated. Let’s discuss your restrictions and see if substitutions can be made within the context of our tours before you reserve. When reserving online, please fill out your dietary allergies and/or your religious/ethical restrictions in the form provided. Do not list food preferences (i.e. “no spicy food” or “no cilantro”) in the form, only allergies or serious dietary needs that our restaurants must know.

Are there vegetarian/vegan options?

‘Yes’ to vegetarian. Whether we can accommodate vegan options depends on the day. Call us and we’ll assist you, please.

I have a gluten sensitivity. Can I still tour?

Definitely call so we can assist you. Certain dietary restrictions require careful planning on our part, and we may not be able to accommodate the dietary needs of everyone. Some of our restaurant partners are closed on certain days, making it even more difficult to give a definitive answer. We will do our best to help you! Again, please call.

Are there any beverages served on the tour?

Each restaurant will serve water with each meal. Alcoholic beverages can be paired with each dish on the tour for an additional cost (see details about our beer and wine pairing option). You are welcome to purchase non-alcoholic drinks if you wish.

Does the tour guide accept gratuities?

Yes. Guide gratuities are greatly appreciated, although not required.

Do tickets need to be purchased for children?

Children aged 12 and under have a special rate, but the tour is not recommended for children under the age of 8. Please call if you would like to arrange for your young child to attend, but please be mindful that the tour is intended for adventurous palates.

Which restaurants will we visit?

Restaurants fluctuate by the day, which is the primary reason we ask that reservations be made in advance: our restaurant partners need time to prepare the delicious food! All of the restaurants we will visit are top-ranked, and are locally-owned and operated (i.e. no large chains or mass produced meals).

Are restrooms available during the tour?

Yes. Bathrooms are available at each of the restaurant stops.

How much walking is involved?

Savannah Culinary Tours are walking tours because Savannah is extremely pedestrian friendly. Walking is the best way to enjoy the charm of our beautiful city. Approximately half of the tour will be spent walking at a leisurely pace. We travel about a mile, total. Most restaurant stops last 25-30 minutes. Please remember to wear comfortable shoes and clothes.

What happens if it rains?

Tours are held rain or shine. We recommend bringing an umbrella, because Savannah weather is unpredictable. We will try to provide rain ponchos, but cannot guarantee they will be available. We will not be outdoors for the entire tour. Tours may be rescheduled based on severe conditions, such as a hurricane or tornado.

Are cameras allowed on the tour?

Yes, cameras are welcome. No video devices or audio recorders while touring, please.

Is the tour animal-friendly?

Sadly, no. Pets are prohibited in restaurants due to health codes (service animals are permitted, as per the ADA). Although it’s a food-themed event, your wiener dog shouldn’t come on the tour.

Where does the tour finish?

All tours end within easy walking distance of all downtown Savannah hotels.

Can I shop on the tour?

We ask that you wait until after the tour to shop so that we can stay on schedule. After the tour, please feel free to shop at any of the venues included on the tour and explore Savannah further!

One or more of my party is disabled or uses a wheelchair. Can we still tour?

Since several of our stops involve stairs, it depends on your party’s mobility. We can sometimes accommodate special needs by altering our route. Please call.

How many people can attend a Savannah Culinary Tour?

Our regular tour size is extremely limited. We want to get to know each of you, which is impossible in a large group. Our maximum regular tour group is sixteen.

Are private tours available?

Yes, we can usually accommodate a private tour, but only with advance notice. Please call (912) 604-3007 for details and to arrange payment.
